Stroopwafels
Have you ever had a stroopwafel? These are a new discovery that Michael made at work and brought home to tempt me with.
A stroopwafel, literally syrup waffle, is made of two stiff wafer layers bound by a caramel filling. Traditionally, it is then placed on top of a hot mug of coffee or tea for a few minutes before eating to reheat the caramel and make a warm, gooey breakfast treat.
This traditional Dutch dish has been around since the early 1800s, and has apparently been featured on The Great British Baking Show back in 2017, though I didn’t remember that at all when Michael brought them home.
Parker brought one up with my coffee this morning, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciated it. (Mabel appreciated it too, as she got to share in halfsies with Mommy.) Bash had a cough yesterday afternoon that turned worse overnight, so I didn’t get much rest last night. A warm stroopwafel certainly made the morning sweeter.
