Strong Women. May We Know Them. May We Be Them. May We Write Them.
I was fortunate to have two beautiful, strong, outstanding women in my grandmother and great-grandmother to look up to, but they aren’t the only women who shaped me into who I am. (And who I continue to be, because I’m always growing and changing.) Some of the most influential women in my life were fictional, but that didn’t make them any less important.
I had Jo March telling me to write. Write your truth, and never stop. Marianne Dashwood taught me to love without restraint, but also to not be defined only by that love. Anne Shirley showed me how to see things as more than what they appear. Elizabeth Bennet encouraged me not to dumb myself down for anyone. Especially a man. Luna Lovegood taught me to be myself, because the people who are truly your people will love you more for it. Molly Weasley is a reminder that I’m never “just” a mom.
It’s no secret that I love Harry Potter, so I made this with some of my favorite Bad Ass Women from the series. It’s hanging on the wall above my craft desk now, and I’m pretty obsessed with it.
Who would you put on one if you had to choose your favorite BA Women of Literature?
