The Best Day Ever
Five years ago today I was doing everything I could to go into labor. I was desperately hoping that my newest little one would come by the end of the 2nd so that they could share a birthday with the most amazing woman ever. One that I hoped to name a daughter for one day, although I was sure that the baby I was currently carrying would be my 3rd boy.
My baby didn’t come that day, but I did have a beautiful little girl six days later on the 8th, and I did get to name her Eleanor Patricia after the most amazing woman ever. My grandmother, Patricia.
Today my grandmother is turning...well, never mind the number...but today she celebrates another full journey around the sun! The earth has been a better place for another full year with her on it, and she is most certainly a reason to celebrate.
I can say with 100% certainty that I would not be the person I am today without her guidance and love. She taught me about the world, about people, and about how to survive both. She has been my prime example of how to be a survivor instead of a victim of my circumstances. Even if she might not always agree with me, I like to think she’s proud that she raised someone who can stick by her beliefs and advocate for what she feels is right. (She might not always love that I inherited her stubborn streak though.)
If I can be a fraction of the woman she is when I “grow up” I will be content.
